Naked Space: seated meditationNaked Space practices feature a series of activities to focus the mind, engage the body and connect participants with one another. Removing the costumes we wear every day, we willfully shed one of the ego's many skins and usher ourselves momentarily into the present.

To further the unburdening, you don't need to bring anything with you to participate in Naked Space. All materials will be provided. A suggested donation of $10 per person helps off-set the cost of maintenance and replacement.

The hosts of Naked Space reserve the right to deny admission to anyone who violates the spirit of the group. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Clearly communicate your intentions and respect the responses you receive. Remain conscious of the present moment.

Activities (you do naked)

  • Meditation: The original Naked Space (in)activity alternates between seated and walking modes of meditation. The duration of each meditation is adjusted to suit the experience and comfort of all.

  • Yoga: Consciously directed movement provides vital feedback for refining one's neuromuscular body-map and for recognizing the subtle influence that intention can have on alignment. The opportunity for guidance from experienced practioners is available, but this is not a yoga class. Previous experience is recommended though not required.

  • Massage: The mutual exchange of attention and energy are at the heart of this activity. Synchronized touch is introduced and developed through partner exercises in the Short Practice, leading to group massage in the Long Practice.

Materials (you don't have to bring)

  • Meditation seats: An assortment of benches, platforms, and zafus accomodate individual preferences for seated meditation. A supported and erect posture facilitates relaxed breathing, which in turn eases the mind.

  • Yoga blocks: Great for finding extension in a pose without strain, but if you're going to sit on one, please use a towel.

  • Yoga mats: Whether you use it to soften a hardwood floor, reduce slipping in standing poses, or delineate personal space, you don't have to worry about bringing one to Naked Space because there's plenty for all. And if you don't want to use one, that's fine too.

  • Massage oil: Grapeseed is the house choice, with added essential oils for aroma. Let your host know if you have scent-related concerns, as unscented oil is also available.

  • Towels: To wipe away sweat or excess oil.

  • Water: It's important to remain hydrated throughout Naked Space, so water pitchers and cups will be available, and water breaks will be worked into the schedule.
